Supporting Roles

It's not quite an elephant in the room, but it is definitely something that can't get addressed without massive amounts of embarrassment (for some). I'm talking about boobs!

Ballet and boobs, at least since our dear Mr. Balanchine, do not mix. They're not on friendly terms, and despite all the advances made with women's athletic apparel and supportive garments, I feel like the classic leotard has not caught up.

They're fashionable, in many colors and geometric variation, but that little shelf bra doesn't do the trick when it's time to jump, bend, or pas de chat across the room. My teacher seems to be very insistent that I jump a little higher, and I fear a massive concussion from being knocked in the head by free flying boobies. Well not free flying, but glancing into the mirror in front of me is horrifying for the sake of my lovely orbs of woman hood. I want to keep them safe.

After last night's tectonic shift session, it's time for --

Support Quest 2012!

Now which bra to try?

Misty Copeland's TBA supportive line of leotards:
I recently read that the ABT soloist is planning to launch a line of leotards that offer support for dancers who aren't totally flat on top. Unfortunately, in planning doesn't translate to "buy now" so I'm still thumbing through the options.

Balera's SM1726:
So it looks like it could be a go, it's just the nude color for someone who isn't my color. I could get it and dye it, but that really does get old. I'll probably try a few others first.

Le Mystere Women's Energie Sports Bra
I think I like this one the most. It's a little expensive, but it has cups so no uniboob, and it looks more supportive than Balera's.

There's also the padded V neck bra by Body Wrappers.
It doesn't really look like something I'd enjoy wearing. I think it'd do better making my own...

So I'm considering the Le Mystere Women's Energie bra to start. We'll see how it goes.
